Train accurately for what you are going to do.
At the tournament, I did Lau Gar Kwun with my waxwood staff. Due to low ceilings, I had been practicing with my rattan staff.
I hit the floor with my longer staff at the tournament.
Twice.

You may indeed have erred in your form, but your reaction in that moment was a lesson in itself for others. Your quick grin was a reminder that these performances are not so serious. We should always do our best, but stay relaxed about the outcome.
ReplyDeleteI saw another competitor (an international champion someone told me later) bobble her landing on one of those fantastic flips. She came in second, and her anger wasn't pleasant to see.
I prefer the grin.
