Lesson learned

Train accurately for what you are going to do.

At the tournament, I did Lau Gar Kwun with my waxwood staff. Due to low ceilings, I had been practicing with my rattan staff.

I hit the floor with my longer staff at the tournament.

Twice.

  1. You may indeed have erred in your form, but your reaction in that moment was a lesson in itself for others. Your quick grin was a reminder that these performances are not so serious. We should always do our best, but stay relaxed about the outcome.

I saw another competitor (an international champion someone told me later) bobble her landing on one of those fantastic flips. She came in second, and her anger wasn't pleasant to see.

    I prefer the grin.
