note: The following is only my personal view and I am not trying to demean anybody by what is said.
I've been doing some thinking and have reached the conclusion that 30 push-ups/sit-ups a day is too easy. So for the past few weeks I've attempted to do 100 a day. I have discovered that it is not fun to wake up every morning and do a hundred and then have to sit at a desk for seven hours. It is also not enjoyable to do it at night and then be super sore in the morning. So Ive decided to customize my ten tigers goal by doing 70 push-ups and sit-ups a day. This should provide a challenge and still allow my muscles to function properly each morning. I was wondering what you guys thought. Should I just take it easy with only 30, should I push myself with 100, or should I go with the median of 70?

It's more than your personal opinion. 100 push/situps a day makes anybody sore when first started. I worked up from 30 a day (and the 30 were hard to get used to too), but you can ask Steven if it was hard go from zero to 100.
ReplyDeleteSpace them out over the day. I like to save some for just before sleep because they cheer me up (endorphins, I've been told) but all 100 at night is depressing regardless.
Also, I've found a spot or two at school where I can pop off 20 at a time, maybe twice or three times in the day. It gets my blood pumping when there's nothing else to be done but sit in class!
But most importantly, take care of your body. If your muscles are not functioning properly, ease off. I think (and this is my personal opinion!) that intense exercise should be interspersed with days of rest, because your body needs/requires rest. Whatever you decide your numbers should be, consider arranging your schedule so that you have one or more days of physical rest per week.
An interesting thing that happened to me after the end of the first year of Ten Tigers: We had a month off before the next opportunity to join. In that month, I did nothing. I quit all the activity. And I hurt all over. It took two weeks to stop hurting! NOT taking care of myself hurt more than taking care of myself! Lesson learned.
